A National Level Technical Symposium “AVANTAA 2017” was conducted by Sri Krishna College of Technology, Kovaipudur on 10th & 11th March 2017. The chief guest Dr.G.Bakthavathsalam,Chairman,
About 2000 participants from 87 institutions across India participated in various events such as paper presentation, project demos, workshops, fun events, etc.Students were able to showcase their talents in 50 Technical and Non-technical events. The symposium was conducted with the objective to endure technical skills of students. Students from institution worked throughout the week to make the event successful with the guidance from the management. Some highlighting events were Water Rocketry, Mock CID, Melhor Engineer, Robot Race, Impresario, Coder's Marathon, Creation D'affiches, Best Management and Out of Box. To provide refreshment, various fun events were conducted, in which students actively participated.A lot of mind-boggling projects were presented and appreciated by the viewers.Winners were awarded with exciting gift vouchers and cash prizes.
Mobile application development, Data analytics, Smart Grid with IOT and many more informative workshops that are currently trending in the industries were conducted by various industrial experts to improvise the knowledge about the technologies and blend them for the industrial world. The colourful event ended with an attractive cultural show conducted and participated by the college students which made the entire crowd to stand on their feet.
Dr Bakthavathsalam delivered the speech as the Chief Guest and echoed that "the youths should remain patriotic, stay in the county and use their skills and talents for the development of the motherland".
“If they set their minds, they can elevate India to the status of the US. Why go to the US? Create the US in India,” he said.
Troubled time for Indians
Dr Bakthavathsalam said that after Mr Donald John Trump had become the new President of the US, Indians there were facing a difficult situation. Mr Trump was trying to impose restrictions on the entry of Indians and was also contemplating to send Indians out of that country on various pretexts.
He recalled that “43 years ago I also worked in the US but in deference to the wishes of my father ‘Dharma Veera’ Govindaswamy Naidu I had come back to Coimbatore and set up KG Hospital.”
He underscored the point that our former President Dr A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, hailing from a modest fisherman’s family in Rameshwaram, had his education in Tiruchy and Chennai. He never went to any foreign university. But through untiring efforts and foresight Dr Kalam became a renowned “Missile Man of India” and later President (First Citizen) of the country.
Dr Bakthavathsalam quoted Dr Kalam as saying that “our birth may be an incident, but our death should be a history.” Dr Kalam urged the youths to dream big and also explained the nature of the dream as: “Dream is not that what you see while sleeping, it is something that does not let you sleep.”
‘Quest for providing world class healthcare services’
In its quest for providing world class healthcare services, KG Hospital had been procuring sophisticated medical equipments from countries such as Germany and Japan. He wondered as to why such modern equipments should not be manufactured in India.
If the thousands of engineers available in our country were determined enough, they could produce equipment of international standards, as they had the capacity to do so. They should make a resolve in right earnest to use their skills and talents for the betterment of our country.
‘Health is important’
The Chairman further said that youths should pay due attention to their health and should not give the excuse that “I don’t have time.” If they do not stay energetic, they might get physical ailments, including heart attack.
For staying healthy, the youths must get up early in the morning, do physical exercises or yoga, and stay connected to God through prayer and meditation. They should adopt the right food habit and shun carbonated beverages such as Coke and Pepsi as these would do harm to their health.
Dr Bakthavathsalam called upon the youths to “take to drinking tender coconut which has a lot of medicinal properties.” When the youths start earning they should make it a point to set aside 10 per cent of their income for charity purpose, ie., for helping out the poor and the needy.
He further said that “corruption is a widespread disease that is afflicting the society. The malaise of corruption could be eradicated only by the right-thinking youths.” He called upon the youths to take an oath to put an end to corruption.
Life-saving procedure
Dr Bakthavathsalam said that anybody could develop heart ailments at any place and at any time. “It could be your parents, relatives or well-wishers. If anybody falls unconscious, adopting the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedure as first-aid would revive the patient. Through such a procedure 50 per cent of the patients could be saved,” he said.
Dr Bakthavathsalam also presented a mock drill on the CPR with the help of a mannequin. He evinced keen interest on the exhibits of engineering students such as “3D zebra crossing”, a drone and a racing car. Dr K.Sundararaman, CEO of Sri Krishna Institutions, Dr S.Palaniammal, Dean, and Dr A.Ramesh, Principal, were present.
